While I love Oven Roasted Asparagus, I don’t love preheating the oven or washing the big sheet pan. That’s why I’ve taken to loading the air fryer basket with washed and trimmed asparagus. In just a few minutes, we’ve got a tasty side dish, hands free and healthy!

    Why Make This

It’s easy. You only need three ingredients to preo this low carb air fryer asparagus: spray oil, asparagus spears, and Everything Seasoning.

It’s delicious. Since the spice mix is an all-in-one miracle for bringing flavor, it saves you time and hassle while bringing big flavor. Try serving it with mac and cheese.

It’s quick. Depending on the size of your asparagus, this dish comes together in as little time as five minutes! It’s a great side dish for ham.

    Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make Air Fryer Asparagus:

ingredients for making air fryer asparagus laid out on a white counter.

asparagus spears – Choose spears that straight and firm with tightly closed tips and smooth skin. You don’t want mushed tips or wrinkly skin. Thin spears are younger and will be more tender and sweeter than thick ones. You might not have a choice at the grocery store. Trim the veg by breaking off the woody ends and rinsing them with cool water.

nonstick cooking spray – I like the ease and low calories of avocado spray but you can also use a drizzle of olive oil or melted butter.

Everything Seasoning – usually a mixture of salt, pepper, onion, garlic, and poppy and sesame seeds, Everything Seasoning brings loads of flavor. Almost every store carries a version of it. I use a homemade version in my Everything Hamburger Buns. You can use a different spice mix if you prefer or check out one of the variations below.

    Variations

While I love the simplicity of spray oil and Everything Seasoning, there are so many ways you can jazz up your air fryer asparagus. Consider adding any of the following alone or in combination:

    • drizzling of Homemade Chipotle Mayo is amazing!
    • sprinkling with grated parmesan, garlic powder and cracked black pepper
    • sprinkling with nutritional yeast or mushroom salt
    • tossing with Italian dressing and fresh chopped basil
    • drizzling with extra virgin olive oil. fresh lemon juice, coarse salt, and crushed red pepper flakes
    • serving with remoulade or a milder herb mayo.

You can also prepare other vegetables in the air fryer in a similar manner, such as Brussels sprouts, sweet potato wedges, broccoli, and zucchini. Adjust the cooking time for the thickness of the vegetable and cook until tender.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

This is one of the easiest recipes ever! Here’s how to make it:

asparagus spears on a white cutting board with the woody stems broken off in a pile.
asparagus spears in air fryer basket.
spraying avocado oil on the spears in basket.
the finished asparagus with Everything seasoning on a rectangular platter.
    • First, be sure to wash and trim the spears. You can cut off the bottoms, but I have best results simply by bending the spear until the woody end breaks off.
    • Place the asparagus spears in a single layer (or a double layer is fine, too) in the basket of the air fryer. Spray lightly with the oil spray.
    • Place the basket in the air fryer and set it to 400 degrees. Cook for five minutes or until the asparagus is tender. Don’t overcook as the color will diminish and you’ll have wilted limp spears.
    • Sprinkle with seasoning to taste and serve.

For very crispy asparagus spears, increase the cook time to ten minutes.

Store leftovers in a covered dish in the fridge for up to three days. Toss them into Creamy Dairy-Free Asparagus Soup or blend them into Spring Vegetable Soup for a new twist.

    FAQs

What temperature do you cook asparagus at?

I like my spears to be crisp tender so I cook them quickly at high heat of 400 degrees.

Can you air fry asparagus without oil?

You don’t typically need a lot of oil to cook asparagus, just enough to keep it moist. Using a spray oil will help reduce the amount of oil you use.

How long do I put asparagus in the air fryer?

Asparagus cooks quickly. To avoid very limp spears, cook just five minutes and check for doneness. Thicker spears will take longer.

      5 stars
This was so easy and my family loved it! I found a no salt table blend seasoning at Aldi for my college son for his week’s worth of chicken he makes. I used it on the asparagus and it was fantastic!
