Sometimes you just need a quick and easy meal. Tortilla pizza is at the top of my list. I can load up a plain tortilla pizza with my favorite sauce, cheese, and little toppings from whatever in the fridge that needs using.
Quick, easy, and super flexible, this recipe for tortilla pizza is one to keep in your bag of tricks for those nights when you just need to eat something tasty without a lot of hassle.
Why Make This
It’s quick. Depending on how you cook your tortilla pizza, you can have a hot meal ready in 3 to 7 minutes.
It’s super versatile. Using a tortilla for pizza crust, you can put whatever topping you want on top. This is a great recipe for using bits and bobs of ingredients that you have on hand to avoid wasting food.
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need:
flour tortillas – You can use whatever brand or size of tortillas you like, corn or flour. Thicker tortillas will allow for slightly longer cooking pizza toppings. Thinner tortillas will have a very short cooking time, so plan your toppings accordingly.
sauce – Sauces good for pizza include pizza sauce, marinara sauce, or pesto. You can even use Apricot BBQ Sauce or another favorite sauce to mix up the flavor profile.
cheese – Shredded mozzarella works well as does shredded pepper jack or Monterey jack. You can also use provolone or fresh mozzarella on your tortilla pizza as well as dollops of cottage cheese or ricotta.
pizza toppings – The sky’s the limit when it comes to tortilla pizza toppings. You can top your pizza with sliced pepperoni, mushroom slices, sliced olives, pineapple chunks, chopped onion, even a whole egg can be served atop a pizza.
Step-by-Step Instructions
There are three main ways to make a tortilla pizza: in the oven, in an air fryer, and in a skillet.
Oven Instructions
You can bake your pizza in the oven or toaster oven, depending on its size.
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Lay out the tortillas on pizza screens or large baking sheets.
- Divide the sauce over the surface of the tortillas. Sprinkle on the cheese and your choice of toppings.
- Bake for 4-7 minutes until the crust is crisp, cheese is melted, and toppings are hot. The baking time will depend on the thickness of the tortilla and the amount of toppings.
Air Fryer Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees. Place a tortilla in the basket. The edges may curve up the sides.
- Add ¼ the sauce over the surface of the tortilla. Sprinkle on the cheese and your choice of toppings.
- Place the basket in the machine and cook for 3-5 minutes until the crust is crisp, cheese is melted, and toppings are hot. The baking time will depend on the thickness of the tortilla and the amount of toppings.
Skillet Instructions
- Place a tortilla in the skillet. The edges may curve up the sides.
- Add ¼ the sauce over the surface of the tortilla. Sprinkle on the cheese and your choice of toppings. Cover the pan.
- Turn on the heat to medium-low and cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Watch for burning.
FAQs & Recipe Costs
A baked tortilla pizza won’t freeze well, but you can easily freeze a pizza kit with the elements used for a tortilla pizza or freeze it assembled, but unbaked. To do the latter, assemble the pizza and place in the freezer until frozen. Once frozen, wrap carefully with plastic wrap and place in a ziptop freezer bag. You can bake from frozen when you’re ready to serve.
You can cook a tortilla pizza in the microwave by heating it on a microwave-safe plate for 30-second intervals until the cheese is melted and toppings are hot. The crust will not crisp, but you’ll have a tortilla pizza with melted cheese.
Pizzas are delicious, even without tomato sauce. You can brush the tortilla with olive oil and sprinkle on Italian Seasoning Mix, then use your favorite cheese and toppings. You can also use BBQ sauce, buffalo sauce, or another favorite condiment as the base for your tortilla pizza.
Recipe Costs
Knowing how much it costs you to prepare a recipe can help you decide if it’s the type of recipe to make regularly or one you might want to save for special occasions. Let’s crunch some numbers and see how this recipe pencils out.

What a coincidence! I made tortilla pizzas last night. I ran out of gluten free pizza crusts so I decided to try some GF tortillas I needed to use up. The only difference is that I added another tortilla to make it a bit sturdier to resemble the thickness of a pizza. First, I laid down a tortilla. Then, topped that one with mozzarella. Place the second tortilla on top of that. Then proceed with your toppings and bake or use a skillet on your stovetop. The cheese between the tortillas “glues” them together. If you want thicker “crust”, add another tortilla with cheese. Once it’s done, remove from oven or skillet and allow to cool a little so it’s easier to slice. It’s definitely a winner! Thanks, Jessica, for all of your advice and tips for feeding our families at home delicious, cost efficient meals! Have a great Friday!!!

What a great idea to use tortillas…certainly makes it doable for a busy weekend night! I always seem to have whole wheat tortillas in the fridge too! Thanks for hosting and the great idea.

Nothing too exciting on my plate. Just a loaded baked potato (a wee bit of butter, salt & pepper, cheese & sour cream.) It was yummy!

I love making tortilla pizzas! I do mine on the stove top. Toast the first side for a few minutes, then flip and throw the ingredient on and if your bottom is toasted by the time you get done, turn it off and put the cover on to melt the cheese. It’s delicious!! Thanks!

I shared my crispy pan seared flounder recipe. You can use any flat fish. It uses potato flakes as the breading.

That looks amazing! Thanks for hosting!
