Is Pizza Night your favorite night of the week? Mine, too! Except for the price.
For years getting pizza, good pizza, felt like a splurge. While there may be some cities in the country where great pizza is a dime a dozen, the pizza syndicate in California charges a high price for a quality pie. We’re talking $30 and up for a large supreme pizza!
No problem, I said one day. I’ll learn to do it myself.
So I did. I learned to make homemade pizza instead. You can, too. I’ll show you the best way to make a homemade supreme pizza with your favorite toppings. You won’t need a pizza peel or a hot pizza stone, just regular kitchen equipment. It’s super easy as well as delicious!
Why Make This
Homemade Pizza is a delight. Not only because you save money, but also because you get to play with the toppings. A homemade supreme pizza is a great starter pizza for you to try. The pizzeria classic is super easy to make yourself and you can skip the delivery fee!
It’s more healthful. Frozen pizza or the ones from a fast food pizza joint include additives and preservatives like sodium phosphate. You can use real cheese and your favorite supreme pizza toppings to make this thin crust pizza all meat lovers will enjoy.
Ingredients
For the perfect pizza, you’ll need the classic supreme pizza toppings and ingredients:
a pizza crust – You can buy commercial pizza dough at the store or make your own homemade pizza dough. I’m partial to sourdough pizza crust. But, if you don’t have time to make your own dough, you can also make pizza on pita bread, atop French bread, or even on English muffins. You can also make pizza bagels, all with the supreme pizza toppings.
pizza sauce – I typically use an easy pizza sauce made from tomato paste, but if you’re in a pinch, you can use tomato sauce and dried Italian herbs.
cheese – shredded mozzarella cheese and/or jack cheese are great for pizza. Parmesan cheese is a nice option as well. If you shred part skim milk mozzarella yourself, you can avoid the cellulose powder that’s often added to shredded cheese. This additive often prevents the cheese from melting well.
meat – Supreme pizza toppings typically include a lot of meats, like pepperoni slices, cooked and crumbled Italian sausage, chopped ham or Canadian bacon, You can also use ground beef or pork sausage if that’s what you have on hand.
veggies – Dazzle your taste buds with lots of veggies, like chopped or sliced white or red onions, chopped or sliced green bell peppers (you can use red or yellow peppers, too), sliced mushrooms, and sliced black olives.
PRO TIP: Be mindful of how much veg you add. Fresh veggies give off water when cooked. Too many will make your pizza soggy and affect the texture of the finished pizza pie. You can offset this a bit if you top your pizza with sautéed vegetables from which the water has already been cooked off.
These are the classic toppings, but feel free to add extra toppings or to top your pizza with fresh basil and/or red pepper flakes.
Step-by-Step Instructions
It’s easy to make your own supreme pizza. Here’s how to do it:

- Flatten dough into a thin round and place on the pizza pan.
- Spread pizza sauce over the dough
- Layer the toppings over the dough in the order listed

FAQs
A supreme pizza is pretty standard fare at most of my childhood pizza places, with a few twists to the nomenclature. My hometown favorite, ChiChi’s Pizza calls it a Super Deluxe. Pizza Hut calls is a Supreme. At Costco, it was called the Combo. Whatever you call it, Supreme Pizza is delicious!
You need to cook the sausage, but for the rest of the toppings, you don’t need to cook them. Simply place them on raw. They will cook in the oven. If you prefer, you can precook the vegetables to eliminate some of their water content. That’s up to you.
Watch how many vegetables you put on the pizza. Water will cook out of raw veggies onto your pizza. Too many and you might end up with a soggy pizza. Another possible pizza cooking mistake could be because your oven wasn’t hot enough. We cook ours at 475 degrees or on a very hot outdoor grill.
The Cost to Make a Homemade Supreme Pizza
Making your own homemade supreme pizza is super affordable. Here’s how the prices break down when purchased at non-sale prices at a mid-range grocery store:
- homemade pizza dough – $0.51 (based on $2.03 for a full batch)
- pizza sauce – $0.06 (based on $0.99 for a full batch)
- pepperoni – $0.50 ($2.50/6 oz)
- sausage – $0.50 ($3.99/lb)
- mushrooms – $0.20 ($1.99/8 oz)
- bell peppers – $0.25 ($1/ea)
- onion – $0.10 ($0.75/whole onion)
- black olives – $0.12 ($2.29/6 oz)
- mozzarella cheese – $0.94 ($1.88/8 oz)
Total cost for one homemade supreme pizza is $3.18!
Compare that price with the following alternatives:
- grocery store take and bake supreme pizza: $5
- grocery store frozen supreme pizza: $4.29
- Pizza Hut: $18.99
Clearly, homemade wins!

I used this recipe on a pre-made cauliflower crust with sauce (6 oz paste-15 oz sauce-garlic-salt-oregano-italian spices-garlic powder-s/p)(enough for 3 pizzas). Topped with veggies in order listed with no meat (vegetarian bf). Sprinkled parm and crushed pepper before baking. It. Was. Supreme.

Friday pizza here too. Which also means use up leftovers. Kids are getting cheese pizzas made on tortillas since it uses less cheese (I need to stretch it so I don’t have to go shopping!). We had some leftover steak, so we are gonna try a philly cheese steak type of pizza. I love using leftovers on pizza nights. No two weeks are the same!

Hi Jessica:
I know this has nothing to do with today’s topic but I just had to tell you that this week we had two of your recipes: one was your whole wheat banana pancakes that you posted a week or two ago. They were delicious and our daughter who is a healthy eater only absolutely loved them. I never made homemade pancakes; I always used the box. Since making them, I also printed out your recipe for basic pancakes and will be making them shortly as well. The whole wheat pancakes recipe made 20 so I have some in the freezer. I’m not ever going to buy pancake mix in the box any more.
The second thing we had was your lawnmower taco. I made that about three weeks ago along with some other freezer meals and we finally had it last night. All I can say is YUM!!!!!!! We all loved it and it will definitely be part of our regular rotation. I can’t wait to make it again; easy and absolutely delicious!!!
Thanks!

Double YAY! I’m so glad your family enjoyed them both. I consider that high praise since I know you’re such a good cook!

Jessica, how long to you let the dough knead on your Kitchen Aid? What other tricks have you learning in making your dough using your Kitchen Aid?
Jessica Fisher
I have a post in the works. I am learning to love my Kitchen Aid, especially when it can easily make a double batch of pizza dough. I think I knead it for about five minutes.
