I cooked up taco meat, made baked tacos, and arranged all the fixings for a massive taco salad.

The two expensive ingredients were the meat and the avocado - got those for a steal on markdown so these eats were good and cheap.

    Don’t you just love Wednesdays?

There are some great sales to be had during a holiday week and I even beat that ground turkey price by buying marked down packages and stacking them with coupons. They ended up being $0.07 and $0.57 a pound!

Be sure to follow @goodcheapeatsblog for more tips to stretch your grocery dollar!💵

If you love a good salad, then this tip is for you.

💡Next time you prep a salad, make two extra for the fridge.

Hold off on really wet ingredients like tomatoes and cucumbers so things don’t get soggy.

With a base of lettuce, cabbage, carrots, scallions, and bell peppers, you can customize with different flavor profiles, making each day’s salad a little different.

So good and so easy! Tap the link in my bio @goodcheapeatsblog for specific amounts and instructions. https://goodcheapeats.com/meal-prep-salads/

Seriously. This is just my standard 4-ingredient sourdough bread with dark chocolate chips added in. So good. So easy.

Good stuff doesn’t have to be hard. Or expensive. ❤️

I’ve cooked my way through three electric pressure cookers. Sometimes the unit does die, but if it’s not performing as well as it used to, it may be that the sealing ring needs to be replaced. In my experience, they stretch, stain, or absorb odors so every few years I replace it and it stretches the life of the machine - and my enjoyment of it!

    It was a trip.

I’m a little letdown that we weren’t more under budget, but under budget is still a WIN.

Japan costs broke down this way:
Food $1500 (about what we’d spend on groceries if we’d been home)
Activities $1500 (mostly Disney x2)
Lodging $6000
Flights $7160
In-Country Transportation $2800

Did you think the number would be more or less 💰?

    I love an empty fridge.

Now that we paid off all our debts and figured out how to handle money, it represents a fresh start to me. A clean slate.

Today I wiped it all down and restocked after three weeks away from home. Feels good!

What about you? Do you love empty space in the fridge?

I’ve been very active over on my bookstagram @jessfisherwrites this year but I haven’t forgotten my first love of writing: cookbooks.

Tropes are very much a thing in fiction; I realized they are for cookbooks, too!

My ode to @starbucks_j ❤️❤️ - They say the Japanese can make good things even better, and it’s proven true with my good old Starbies.

I’ve been frustrated at home with the high expense and shrinkflation so it has been an absolute joy to indulge in sandwiches and coffees while traveling in Japan. High quality, great service, and low prices have made Starbucks Japan a great start to every day — not to mention the employees who seem genuinely happy to work there.

Our family just wrapped up week two of traveling throughout Japan, specifically on the island of Honshu. We’ve seen amusement parks, baseball games, ancient temples, historic castles, and the beautiful garden of @okayamakorakuen . We couldn’t do this kind of travel for six adults (my husband, me, and four of our kids) without some budget living. Thankfully, saving on groceries all year round helps us do it.

With a big family, going to sporting events is a once-in-awhile kind of thing, but we don’t mind the splurge for something unique or special. Like today’s trip to the Mazda Zoom Zoom Stadium (love that name!) in Hiroshima to see the Carp play the Lions. Japanese fans know where it’s at!

We spent about $170 for six tickets and an extra $35 for the styling rain ponchos to wear in the rain. Worth the work to save money all year long!

You’ve seen me shop the sales and clearance so we can eat as cheaply as possible. One of my big WHY’s is so we can do more with our money. We’re currently in Japan for three weeks with four of our kids, paying cash and enjoying some fun experiences, like this afternoon tea at the @hilton.hiroshima . I looked at options in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Kyoto before deciding on this one, which was so beautiful and creative as well as half the price of options in other cities. My girls enjoyed an afternoon of creative dining for about $31/person, less than we’d pay at the tea house back in California. #priceless #familytravel #goodcheapeats

Things I’ve eaten in Japan for the last week…. It’s taken me awhile to find my appetite, so no shame in my burger game. Even familiar “western food” tastes different here so it’s still an adventure. Even McDonalds Big Mac which I would say is more mustard-heavy than in the States. Highlights have been the wagyu steak and burgers as well as @yakisoba_standbyme and ice cream from 7-11. #japan #travelfood #goodcheapeats

Tokyo Grocery Roundup. Food is cheaper here and produce more limited by season. Cherries, Mineolas, grapes, and bananas have been delicious; apples not so much. We’ve found some familiar items that make travel easier, like @oikos in fun different flavors. Still working on my grocery store picnic game because my go-to meats and cheeses aren’t common here. Still fun! #groceries #travelgrocery #goodcheapeats
