If you’ve never tasted the amazing combination of lime and mint, then you’re in for a treat. Customarily served in a Mojito, a Cuban cocktail with rum, these flavors are the ultimate in refreshment.
Thankfully, you don’t need any rum to enjoy a Mojito Mocktail. And there will be no limits as to how much you want to drink!
Why Make This
It’s an affordable beverage you can serve at home. This Mojito Mocktail recipe costs just 41 cents/serving, making it a fun treat that won’t break the bank.
It’s packed with flavor. You won’t miss the rum in this mocktail without alcohol. The lime and mint really bring the taste to the table.
It’s super refreshing. Mint is cooling while lime brightens things up, making this a great combination in a cold beverage.
Ingredients
Here’s what you need to make a Mojito Mocktail:
Peppermint syrup – I recommend making your own peppermint syrup. It tastes so much fresher and realer than bottled syrups which tend to taste a bit fake.
lime juice – Depending on the freshness of your limes, squeezing the juice yourself may give you the best flavor, but there are very reasonable bottled lime juices to choose from as well.
ice cubes – Mojitos are meant to be served cold, so be sure you’ve got ice on hand.
club soda – Plain club soda is relatively cheap to keep on hand. If you have a soda stream machine, you can make your own sparkling water. For a sweeter drink, you can use Sprite or Seven-up instead of the club soda.
optional garnish – It’s fun to garnish the drinks with lime wedges or slices as well as fresh mint sprigs. Store your mint leaves wrapped in damp paper towels in a ziptop bag in the fridge to extend their life.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Here’s how to make a Mojito Mocktail:
- Mix 2 tablespoons peppermint syrup with 2 tablespoons lime juice in each of four glasses.
- Add ice cubes and club soda to taste. Garnish with lime wedges and mint springs.
FAQs & Recipe Costs
The key components of a mojito are mint, lime juice, simple syrup, and rum. To make it virgin, omit the rum and use soda water instead. You’ll have a refreshing mojito mocktail.
Rather than combining the ingredients in individual glasses, combine them in a large pitcher with ice.
A mojito is made with rum while a mocktail is made without alcohol of any kind. Soda or carbonated water can be used as a substitute for the alcohol.
Recipe Costs
Knowing how much it costs you to prepare a recipe can help you decide if it’s the type of recipe to make regularly or one you might want to save for special occasions. Let’s crunch some numbers and see how this recipe pencils out.
- peppermint syrup – $0.35
- lime juice – $0.50
- club soda – $0.77
While your costs may vary depending on where and how you shop, you can expect to pay about $1.62 for a batch of Mojito Mocktail, about 41 cents/serving!

There are approximately 775 calories in a cup of sugar so each cup of this will be at least 100 calories. Substituting Truvia for me brings the calories down while maintaining the sweetness with no aftertaste (personal observation). Truvia is high in sugar alcohol which has it’s own downsides so read up on it before you make the change yourself. Remember to use only half as much Truvia or your drink will be far too sweet. Personally I am working on eliminating the sugar altogether and going with the natural flavors. Mint and Lime are both strong flavors so once you get used to things with no sugar you may find as I have that they can be quite delicious without being sweet.

I am diabetic. What can I use as a substitute for the sugar in your Lime-Mint Cooler? And in what proportion to the sugar ratio? Thank you.

Can you have honey? I would use 1/2 honey, 1/2 water is you can do that.

Thanks so much for this recipe! My husband and I have been drinking this nearly every day with the HOT weather we’ve been having. I even bought a mint plant and pot!
