There are so many great ways to make homemade hamburgers. You can stuff them with spinach (unbeknownst to kids!) and call them Popeye Burgers.

You can stuff them with cheese for the classic Juicy Lucy.

Or you can douse them generously with this easy Hamburger Seasoning Recipe. Made with just six ingredients, regulars in your spice cupboard, you’ll have the best seasoning blend for ground beef or turkey burgers!

    Why Make This

It’s delicious. Packed with flavor, this burger seasoning recipe adds both flavor and texture to your burgers. Lay it on thick for a nice spice crust.

Homemade Hamburger Seasoning is cheap and easy. You don’t need anything expensive to season burgers. This is all you need!

    Ingredients

Here’s what you need to make this Homemade Hamburger Seasoning recipe:

ingredients for hamburger seasoning laid out on a table.

garlic and onion powder – These are made of dehydrated garlic and onion that is then ground into a powder. They offer concentrated flavor in a shelf stable form.

coarse salt – The texture of coarse salt is perfect for burgers. If you only have table or fine salt, it’s an even swap.

paprika – I like to use smoked paprika for burgers, but sweet paprika will be a different, but still delicious alternative.

ground black pepper – Black pepper adds a little kick as well as flavor to the burger patties.

ground cayenne pepper – I like to use cayenne for a little extra heat. You can also use a another chile powder.

Variations: If you have other favorite spices or herbs, such as basil or thyme, feel free to add them in. This is a good basic spice blend to start with.

    Step by Step Instructions

Here’s how to make this Homemade Hamburger Seasoning recipe:

all the spices in a small plate in piles.
scooping a spoonful of hamburger seasoning out of the dish.
    • In a small mixing bowl, combine the seasonings.
    • Season burgers generously prior to grilling. Cook and serve.
    • Store leftover spice mix in an airtight container.

    FAQs

How can I make my hamburger more flavorful?

They often say that the secret is in the sauce. And while hamburger sauce is pretty fire, layered flavor in terms of spices mixed with the ground beef is a good foundation. Use hamburger seasoning either before or after cooking your burgers to give the meat plenty of flavor.

What herbs go best in burgers?

Fresh or dried herbs, such as basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary, and dill are all great for burgers.

    What is hamburger seasoning?

Hamburger seasoning is an all-in-one spice blend for adding herbs and spices to burger patties.

We LOVE simple grilled hamburgers cooked on a charcoal grill. We use salt and pepper most times but I need to try and change up the spices we use. We buy our hamburger from a local locker plant. They have not pink slime, guarantee all the meat is raised in our county, and since we buy a side at a time it is cheaper than cheap hamburger at the store. There have been a few sales that were cheaper, but way less quality.

This all looks so good, now I know what I want to eat on Mother’s Day. Do you have the bun recipe posted somewhere? I did a recipe search but didn’t find it. The hamburger buns look delicious.

I love using paprika on my burgers-same spices I use minus the cayenne. I have been reaching fit the paprika more & more these past years. While at the spice store I hit to talking with the cashier-asked what her favorite spice was. Said mine was paprika & said to try it on burgers. Her face did a “why didn’t i think of that”. Thank you for all the great recipes & saving tips.
