A medley of flavor featuring black and white sesame seeds, garlic flakes, onion flakes, flaky sea salt, poppy seeds, and caraway seeds, Everything seasoning is easy to make your own diy, tastes amazing on baked goods, and is the perfect topping for all things savory, from cream cheese bagels to cottage cheese to roast broccoli.
You can kick store-bought blends to the curb when you make a homemade bagel seasoning mix.
Why Make This
It’s easy. Raid your spice cabinet for salt and a few other simple ingredients, mix them together and you’re good to go. This bagel seasoning recipe takes just minutes to make.
It’s delicious. Jump on the Everything Train and see how yummy this bagel blend can be. It’s great on chicken salad, spreadable cheese, and veggies, in addition to the standard use of mixing it into bagel dough. We love it in and on Everything Hamburger Buns or in place of pretzel salt on Homemade Soft Pretzels.
It’s versatile/customizable. You can tweak this easy seasoning by adjusting the amounts of seeds, minced garlic, or sea salt flakes. Jazz it up with some truffle salt or onion powder to make it just a little different than those storebought bagel seasoning blends.
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make Everything Seasoning:
seeds – Standard seeds include caraway seeds, white and black sesame seeds, and poppy seeds. You’re welcome to add more or less of each depending on whta you like.
dehydrated garlic – dehydrated minced garlic is typical, but we’ve often used garlic powder as a more readily available substitute.
minced onion – dehydrated onion can vary in its size and price. Onion powder can be an alternative.
coarse sea salt – Different types of salt vary in their size and flavor. Choose a chunkier kosher salt or flaky sea salt over table salt or fine sea salt.
Step-by-Step Instructions
This is so simple to make!
- Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Stir well to combine.
- Store the mixture in an airtight container, like a small mason jar, in a cool dry place.
Uses for Everything Seasoning
Sprinkle the seasoning mix into bread or bagel dough or atop any dish you want to add garlicky flavor and the irresistible crunch of seeds. We love this seasoning on:
- crackers with Laughing Cow Cheese
- atop chicken or tuna salad on rye bread
- mixed into hamburger bun dough
- topping for homemade pretzels
- seasoning for air fryer asparagus
- as a finishing for hard cooked eggs
A Note about Baking with Everything Seasoning
Baking with seeds and extra salt can make some of your recipes go a little wonky. Seeds absorb liquid and the salt can make some doughs extra salty. Consider tempering how much you add to the dough itself, adding a bit more liquid, and/or dialing down the salt in the dough recipe just a touch.
