A tosssed salad is a fresh and flavorful way to get your veggies. I love them in any number of ways. But, easy is at the top of the list.
What do you put in a tossed salad?
Creating a good salad does not take a lot of work or complex ingredients. In fact, provided that you have a few flavor ingredients like olive oil, vinegar, and cheese, you can make everyday salads extraordinary without a lot of work.
Take this simple tossed salad with pepperoncinis and feta. It’s a seven-ingredient deal that packs a lot of punch.
- Olive oil (not pictured)
- Feta cheese crumbles
- Holland House Garlic Flavor Red Wine Vinegar
- pepperoncinis
- mixed baby greens
- chopped green onions
- grape tomatoes
Holland House products in the past have included a line of cooking vinegars but they now have a few new vinegars including garlic flavored red wine vinegar and balsamic. I received both to test, complements of Holland House.
The garlic-red wine vinegar was a perfect complement to this salad. Since it already included garlic juice mixed with vinegar it packed a flavor punch.
What dressing is good for a tossed salad?
You can always whip up a different dressing for your salad. Here a few options for you:
- Cilantro Lime Dressing
- Carrot Ginger Dressing
- Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing Recipe
- Delicious Ranch Dressing
- Buttermilk Dressing with Dill
An easy way to dress a salad is simply to toss the greens with vinegar, oil, and a few pinches of Kosher salt. Then use tongs or serving forks to distribute the dressing. You don’t need to mix the dressing in a separate bowl with this kind of salad.
After you have the greens lightly dressed, you can either dish it out onto plates and add the toppings to each salad. Or you can do what I did in this salad, and add the other ingredients to the salad bowl.
Use tongs to distribute the ingredients and then serve. This salad is extremely flavorful, but easy to make. Sounds like the perfect summer combination in my book.

Just made this tonight and it was amazing, even with regular red wine vinegar. Paired it with some hummus and pita bread for an easy summer dinner.

I love my homemade Caesar salad dressing, but olive oil and vinegar and Greek-inspired toppings takes a salad over the top for me. Thanks for tips and the ratios for this salad dresssing.
