Do you ever flashback to defining moments in your life? Like in the movies when you can really see what was going on in someone’s origin story? You’ve got an inspiring soundtrack playing in your head and you really feel the moment…?

    Just me?

Well, I distinctly remember the day we decided to go after our debt. Bryan and I had a big talk about our finances and made some hard decisions. We were both embarrassed that things had gotten so bad, but we were determined to make some changes.

As if I were some movie heroine suiting up for battle… (I’m thinking Jennifer Garner would play me, what do you think?)… I stood in front of our kitchen pantry assessing things.

    I vowed to do better.

To feed my family while also being responsible with our money. I resolved to use what we had and not to buy another grocery unless it was a true need.

(Read: milk for our small children.)

Those first few weeks we ate that cupboard down to the bare shelves — and we saved $600!

… which in today’s money is like $900. ?Ha!

But that was just the beginning. That day standing in front of my pantry was the start of something bigger.

Creativity was born, and the ability to make something from nothing. The desire to make do with less became an exciting challenge, not the drudgery I had originally anticipated.

It’s really quite remarkable! Can you see the heroine defeating the foe?

If you find yourself in need of making some changes — and who isn’t with the economy what it is?! — then I’ve got a resource to get you started on the right path.
