A few weeks ago in the Good Cheap Eats Club forum, a member wrote me and asked, “When were you going to tell us?” She included a link to this book.
Since I’d never heard of this book in my life — and I was still in bed, blearily reading on my phone — I panicked and assumed that someone was publishing a book with my name, with similar recipes to my own.
Once the caffeine set in and I had time to research properly, I found out that my publisher has repackaged my Not Your Mother’s Make-Ahead and Freeze Cookbook into a condensed version with a new name.
This is all well and good, but I feel that some of the marketing materials have missed the mark. More than one reader has assumed this repackaging is a new book with new recipes.
It is not a new book.
It’s a smaller version of the original book with fewer recipes and no cooking plans. (Thank you, Amazon, for posting a kindle sample!)
I do not have a copy of Simple and Delicious Make-Ahead & Freeze Recipes, but I’ve compared my copies of the original 1st and 2nd editions with the index available online.
While the new-but-not-really-new cookbook is lower in price, it also has fewer chapters and fewer recipes than the original. If you already own the 1st or 2nd editions of NYM Make-Ahead and Freeze Cookbook, you do not need to buy Simple and Delicious.
However, if you are looking for a Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, graduation, or wedding gift, Simple and Delicious would make a great gift. It’s got a very clean layout and can serve as a great primer for cooking to freeze.
Whatever cookbooks of mine you buy, THANK YOU for your support. It’s been a wild and exciting ride these past 14 years as a cookbook author, and I could not do it without supportive readers and cookbook buyers!

Thanks for letting us know about this. I own both of your books. But I know a young college grad who loves to cook, so I’m going to purchase one for her.
