With many vegetarian & kosher friends, I needed a chip/veggie dip recipe to take to gatherings that everyone could enjoy. All the ingredients were in my cupboard. It was easy & tasty! Printed it out, taped it in my “Favorites” cookbook & will make many times in the future! (Sorry, Lipton onion soup mix, you’ve been replaced! lol)

Woohoo! Thanks for the great review, Penny!

Shocked how yummy this is in dip! I always keep some on hand in my pantry as easy seasoning for baked meats, marinade with EVOO for grilling, for GCE recipes, and of course dip. Sour cream and veg, come to mama! 😉

Thank you so much for this recipe! I have used the soup mix many times over the years for my beef tips and eye roasts. I make three packs with the water and add it to my nesco( a counter top roasted). I then sprinkle an additional two packs along with a little Montreal steak seasoning on to the tips/ roasts , brown quickly in a cast iron skillet or griddle and then place in the roaster for about 8 hours on low. Cool it down and place in food saver bags for the freezer. I make about 25 to 30 pounds of tips and slice up two roasts. it is great having them ready to go on a busy night for dinner! The broth makes a lovely gravy or soup base.

I hope to try this recipe with a chuck roast. I am trying to reduce using so much premade mixes so I can see what is going into my food. Thanks for posting this.

Let me know how it goes!

I use dried onion soup mix in Beef Stroganof, Oven baked Onion-Roasted Cheese Potatoes, Pot Roast, and Dip. I was making the potatoes today and wondered if there was a way to make the dried mix. So I looked it up saw yours. I think I will try it next time I make this dish.

Since I can’t find the mix at Tesco or Marx & Spenser, here in Hampstead, UK,
This is a handy substitute. Thanks. We use it for foundation of chicken and rice casserole.
Jessica Fisher
Yep. You should be able to find most things there. Love Tesco. 🙂

I would love to try this, in order to get as close to the original taste as possible has anyone tried to toast the dried onions at home rather than buy them toasted? Many thanks for sharing the recipe.

I use this on pork loins and tenderloins oven roasted in aluminum foil. I cover the meat with olive oil then the mix, and wrap it twice in aluminum foil sealing it well. Leave some room for the juices to settle, ot they find their way out of the packet. Place the packet in an oven safe pan. I then roast them at 190-205 degrees F for about 1- 1/2 hours per pound. There may even be enough liquid to make a savory gravy. Guests love it.
