Necessity really is the mother of invention. You see, last Friday the kids and I went strawberry picking. On our way there, we brainstormed all kinds of recipes that we could make with our fresh berries. Among the suggestions was Chocolate Fondue.

    Oh my. Yes.

Melted chocolate, fruit, and cake? I’ll take it. So, while I was making our Friday Night Pizza, I set the small crockpot to work on the fondue. (We have a very nice fondue pot, but I didn’t want to dig it out.) The crockpot offers a handsfree way to make fondue while you eat dinner. Dessert was ready when we were.

Since there is really no fondue pot in the world large enough to serve our whole family at once anyway, I served the fondue in demitasse cups. (We have the eight-setting stacking set like this demitasse set.)

This was perfect for serving many people — and super cute, if I do say so myself. I haven’t yet gotten to taking really good pictures without natural light, so I decided to shoot it the next day.

    That’s when I realized….

I can make fondue for ONE! Oh my. Yes. And all the mothers rejoiced.

    Chocolate Fondue for One prep

As I was thinking about my fondue recipe, I realized that there was no reason you couldn’t make a very small batch as well as make a big batch! So, that’s what I did.

My kids were a little miffed that I was eating fondue alone, but I was cool with that.

The process is pretty simple. Fill a cup with chocolate chips, add half and half. Melt in the microwave slowly. Stir until smooth and dip away. Yay!

This recipe is ideal for singles, couples, folks accommodating a food allergy with a small-serving dessert, or mothers who just need a quick chocolate fix.

I was just moments ago thinking about warming some Nutella to put on some chopped fresh pineapple pieces I need to use up and was wondering if it would be too thick. Maybe I’ll smooth in a bit of half and half and do it like that. Yummm.

Wow, I really thought I came back to update this. It was absolutely fabulous and I did it several times with a variety of dippers. I never made it a full dessert fondue, I just scooped a big spoonful into the small bowl, stirred in some half and half to thin it out, then warmed it in the microwave for just a little bit. I think it was about 30 seconds total. I highly recommend it.

Love this! If been doing something similar this winter, at least the melting the chocolate part. But I’ve been eating it straight up. Now I want to get some fresh strawberries and try that out! For those who need their treat to be dairy free, using coconut milk (from a can) makes an amazing alternative!

Yes on the dairy-free option! And did you know it’s really good COLD. Like a truffle on a spoon. 🙂

Oh Jessica you have perfect timing! I can’t wait to try your fondue recipe. Last week they delivered my semi annual chocolate purchase. Callebaut brand milk chocolate callets, snaps, chunks, chips, and dark chocolate. I love good Belgian chocolate. I no longer live where I can pick my own strawberries. I miss fresh strawberry glaze pie after a long day of processing fresh strawberries you pick yourself. Keep these recipes coming. Those cinnamon puffs look fabulous. Yum!
