Chocolate sandwich cookies are a favorite with pretty much everyone. But when you serve chocolate dipped oreo cookies, you take the treat up a notch.
These Easter Oreos are simple to make and carry the spiritual significance of the holiday in a simple, edible way.
Why Make This
They’re easy. It’s super quick and easy to dip Oreo cookies in candy melt and pipe on the three crosses.
They taste great. Made with golden Oreos, these taste quite a lot like Circus Animal Cookies, a fun twist on the standard chocolate.
They are very meaningful. For those who celebrate the Resurrection on Easter, these cookies are extra special.
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make Holy Cross Easter Oreos:
blonde sandwich cookies – you can use any blonde colored cookie, like a sandwich cookie, such as Golden Oreos, Lemon Oreos, or Snickerdoodle Oreos. The undipped area represents the hill at Calvary.
blue candy melts – the blue represents the sky.
chocolate candy melts – this will be used for piping the crosses on the cookies.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Here’s how to make Easter Oreos:
Line a sheet tray or work surface with parchment paper.
In a bowl, melt the blue candy melts according to package directions. Stir until smooth.
Dip each Oreo cookie about halfway into the melted blue candy. This will form the sky on your cookie while the blonde will represent the dirt. As each cookie is dipped, place it on the prepared tray to harden.
Melt the chocolate candy melts according to package directions and transfer to a small piping bag or plastic sandwich bag with the tip cut off. Pipe three chocolate crosses on each cookie.
Allow the candy melt to set before packaging.
Variations
Be sure to try our recipe for Chocolate Covered Oreos. You can vary the colors of candy melts (such as pink, yellow, and lavender) to represent Easter Eggs and sprinkle with bunny-shaped sprinkles.
FAQs
Oreo does market different styles of cookies for the holidays. Dipping and decorating your own allows you to customize them to suit your preferences and Easter decor.
You should not need to refrigerate them. They are good at room temperature, in a covered container, for at least a week.
It is safe to freeze them, but the fat particles in the chocolate may separate during freezing, leaving white marks. It’s not harmful, but may affect the appearance of the cookie.
