Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. Set this aside.
2 cup unbleached, all-purpose flour,
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder,
1 teaspoon baking soda,
1 teaspoon salt
In a second mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time. Beat well. Stir in the marmalade and vanilla.
½ cup butter,
1 cup granulated sugar,
3 egg,
½ cup orange marmalade,
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Stir in, alternately, the dry ingredients and the milk, in two additions each.
½ cup buttermilk
Spoon the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 22 to 25 minutes or a tester inserted comes out with a few crumbs attached.
Cool the cake completely on a rack before frosting.
Spread the buttercream over the cooled cake, swirling it in bits.
1 batch Orange Buttercream Frosting
Sprinkle chocolate shavings over the cake and garnish with candied orange slices, if desired.
