Favorite Juices & Smoothies - Tips and recipes for making juices and smoothies easier at home.

While there is all kinds of conflicting information out there about health and nutrition, I have found a few commonalities in my travels:

  • reduce your processed sugar intake
  • increase your fresh fruits and vegetables

Making smoothies and juices at home helps you do both these things in a tasty, refreshing way.

Tools of the trade

You do need a couple tools to make it easy. Here are some that we’ve used:

(While I’d love a high-speed blender, that’s just not in the budget at the moment.)

With one of these handy kitchen appliances, you can make a variety of homemade juices and smoothies. To make it easier for your people to consume their drinks, consider building a smoothie station or freeze smoothies and juices so that they’re ready to go. You can also make them into homemade popsicles.

I really want to start making smoothies for breakfast, but operating the blender at 5:30am when the rest of the house is asleep isn’t really an option. Plus, I’m more of a grab and go girl in the AM. Any suggestions for making it the night before, but still keeping that smoothie texture in the morning?

if i needed to be quiet i would bring my blender into the laundry room and buzz away. keep the base there so you don’t have to move it back and forth.

i prefer to grab and go. i’ve been freezing scoops of greek yogurt so when i partake in smoothie mornings i grab a frozen scoop of yogurt, berries, add milk and blend. i wonder if you assembled frozen items into the blender at night, set in fridge, and by morning you’d be set to go?

      Michelle,
You can try making them ahead-of-time and freezing them. FishMama does this sometimes.

        Janel,
Thanks for the link back to her other post. I will have to find some of those BALL cups/jars and try it out this weekend. I could probably take it out of the freezer before hoping into the shower so it’s ready when I walk out the door.

        Annie,
I love your idea about prepping the night before. That might be a good one to try, too.

    • The smoothie station might help, too. If you freeze the yogurt in dollops, all you have to do is grab a few and drop them in the blender. https://goodcheapeats.com/2012/08/build-a-smoothie-station-make-ahead-and-freeze/
