A couple weeks ago we had a hotel staycation. I can’t tell you how much fun it was! We made sure that good eats were a part of the experience. Yeah, baby.

Today I’m over at Food Your Way talking about ways to eat well on vacation, including divulging some of our (junk) food traditions for vacation time.

  1. I love the vending machine allowance but I’m not sure my kids know that hotels have vending machines 🙂

When the kids were littler and prone to more emergencies I kept vending machine money in our medical folder for goodies when we are at the ER or at the hospital for labwork. I keep a stash of quarters and a few bills in the zippered pocket of the travel document case I use to keep track of medical cards and such for 5 kids. Of course its been a LONG time since we’ve had a late night ER trip…

  2. I just had a general question for you. On average, how much time do you spend cooking each day? Or involved with food planning, prep, cooking, and cleanup? Just curious since you always seem to serve your family amazing food. I love to cook but often feel guilty about spending time in the kitchen. I do try to make it fun and get everyone in there to help out but it doesn’t often work out that way.

    • My rough guess is about three hours/day. Sometimes less, sometimes more, depending on freezer cooking. I don’t feel guilty because they’re all running around and I have plenty of “helpers”. I feel guilty when it’s fend-for-yourself day.
