Oats are a regular staple in our house. In fact, I think we probably eat them every day. Whether it is homemade instant oatmeal packets, oatmeal, homemade granola bars, or granola, oats are a daily part of our good eating. They are more filling than other cereals, giving us a stick-to-yer-ribs start on the day.

Recently, I had a chance to test out Tropical Traditions Organic Rolled Oats. I loved the fact that they were organic, lifting a little weight from my conscience. I try to cook organic when possible. I try not to make an idol out of it. But, I do prefer it.

These oats also worked perfectly in a number of family-favorite recipes:

I usually keep both rolled oats and quick oats on hand. Quick Oats work great in instant oatmeal and baked goods, but I prefer the sturdier texture of rolled to put in recipes like those above.

Tropical Traditions products are some of my favorite. I absolutely love their coconut oil and shredded coconut. Their packaging is bulk so I know it will last me awhile. And they often feature sales. You can follow them on twitter or on Facebook to keep up with their specials.

This weekend one Good Cheap Eater will win a big bag of Organic Rolled Oats.

This giveaway will be open until Sunday, May 29th at 8 pm, PST. Winners will be chosen at random and notified via email. Please respond within 48 hours to claim your prize. This giveaway is now closed. Congrats toΒ parentingmiracles@

I make the ultimate Scottish cookie (also known as biscuit)
It goes by the name of Melting Moments, is simple to make, using few ingredients, and a crisp texture that is just out of this world.
Porridge oats are a mainstay of Scottish kitchens, and are so versatile. Oatmeal’s such a popular breakfast dish.
In this recipe the oats add a crunch to the outside of the cookie……
Now, where’s that cup of coffee?
