Real Food Products We Love: Trader Joe’s Hatch Valley Salsa

I love it when I can find real food in a convenient form. While I know I can make it myself, a girl needs a little help every now and then. This Hatch Valley Salsa from Trader Joe’s is pretty amazing.

Real Food Products We Love- Trader Joe's Hatch Valley Salsa - I love it when I can find real food in a convenient form. While I know I can make it myself, a girl needs a little help every now and then. This Hatch Valley Salsa from Trader Joe's is pretty amazing.

This is one of my newest discoveries: Hatch Valley Salsa from Trader Joe’s. They have sold a salsa verde for a long time; they still do. But, they also carry this one. It’s a little bit spicier and has amazing flavor.

We’ve used it to spice up chili and to top Mexican dishes. I’ve made a version of this Chile Cheese Bake about three times in the last month. I’ve been substituting chicken for the chiles. The sauce is already spicy enough; and my boys want meat. It’s the ultimate comfort food for me this winter.

I also use this type of salsa verde in these recipes:

I had no idea I used this type of salsa so often, but I guess I do. Clearly it’s a staple in our kitchen!

Poblano Chile Enchiladas

While I could certainly make a green salsa myself, I love the fact that I can pick up a jar that is full of real ingredients. Check it:

The ingredients list: hatch chile peppers, tomatillos (tomatillos, citric acid for freshness), lime juice concentrate, garlic salt (sea salt, garlic).

It’s all real food in here and it tastes great. It’s currently priced at $2.69 at my local Trader Joe’s. It’s 70 cents more than their standard salsa verde, but it’s really good. I have this feeling that it won’t be around forever, so I’m kind of tempted to stock up on a case. I’ll have to think about that one.

Disclosure: Trader Joe’s does not know I exist, so this is certainly not a sponsored post. But, I thought it would be fun to share some of the products that I love and cook with often. Stay tuned for more “real food products we love“.

  1. Thanks for the review. I’ve never tried salsa verde. And I love trader joes. I will add it to my shopping list

  2. My sister-in-law passed out jars of this salsa at Christmas. I might have to break into it today. 🙂

  3. I have 7 or 8 jars of home canned roasted green tomato salsa in my cupboard so I see many of these recipes in my Pantry Challenge future. The Chile Cheese Bake sounds especially yummy with a little chicken. I think my husband will be happy with the pantry challenge this year if there’s Mexican style food every other day.

  4. We haven’t tried this one yet, but we love green salsa. Looking forward to more posts like this one!

  5. Thanks so much for letting me know about this, Jessica. We don’t get to go to TJ’s often, but we LOVE salsa verde around here.

I was there recently, however, and I picked up 2 jars of their Tomato Basil Pasta Sauce for $1.79 each. I am kicking myself that I didn’t fill my cart with it because it is truly the BEST I’ve ever tasted. Have you tried it?

  6. I love this feature! Both for the “healthier” store-bought options and the recipe ideas 🙂

  7. Allie Zirkle says:

Love TJs! I use their regular salsa verde in my guacamole. Kicks it up a notch just perfectly. I picked up the hatch just this week and will try it in the same way. Yum!!!

  8. I just bought some last week, looks good! I’ll do some open tostados with that on top, with some leftover roast beef…

  9. I bought this after seeing it on your blog. My husband and I LOVE it. My husband was sceptical but loved it on his quesadillas.
