5 Ways to Enjoy Apple Season

Fall is officially here – and so is apple season. I’m so happy! It’s one of our favorite times of year. Now that we get a weekly delivery of farm fresh produce, I’m even happier. This past week, there was an add-on option of Granny Smith apples for $0.80. Not the cheapest I’ve ever seen it, but very few things are these days. I bought 20 pounds.

I’m looking forward to whipping up several apple pies and a few slow cookers full of applesauce. In a good year, we go through about 80 to 100 pounds of apples, purchased in bulk. This is only the beginning!

Head to your nearest apple farm (or grocery store) for fresh apples and try out one of these tasty apple recipes.

  1. Your slab apple pie is in my top three of ways to enjoy apples. Sliced apples dipped in peanut butter isn’t bad either.

  2. As fall approached I was back in the mood to turn the oven on. The first recipe I made..your slab apple pie! Oh my goodness!!!! It was so delicious that I made another and it sitting in my fridge as I type. My pickiest eater devours it!! That speaks volumes to me. Mine has yet to come out looking as beautiful as yours is in the picture but it still tastes good. I would recommend all readers try this!!!

We love baked apple oatmeal, apple butter (my Grandma’s recipe that I give away at Christmas time), apple cake and cinnamon apple sauce. We picked 2 bushels on Saturday at a local farm. Can’t wait to start cooking!

  4. When I got tired of making applesauce, I made individual apple crisps and froze them last year. Bake straight from the freezer, they were perfect!

  5. I just made up 4 freezer apple pie fillings today…getting ready for Thanksgiving! We made applesauce and apple crisp last week…still have more to work with! :)

  6. I make and can applesauce. Without any sugar. This year I have been making applesauce blends and canning (Peach & Apple Sauce) Yum! I need to get the tutoral up on my blog soon!

  7. My son and I made your Slab Apple Pie today as our dessert offering at his Boy Scout Court of Honor this evening…it was so yummy and I will certainly be making it again! Thanks a bunch!

  8. I’ve enjoyed freezing apple crisp kits and taking them camping and having them for the crock pot, oven or give as a gift!
