Ingredients from Emeril Lagasse: A Review

by Jessica on October 1, 2009

Thanks to Foodbuzz’s Tastemaker Program, I recently had the opportunity to try out some products that were new to our family, all from Emeril Lagasse’s grocery line. What fun products to add to our pantry staples!

Here’s a quick rundown of what we tried:

Kicked Up Horseradish Mustard – If you like horseradish, you’ll love this stuff. Yummy. I am the only fan, but I’ve been enjoying it on brats and hot dogs as well as turkey sandwiches. Delish!

Chicken Stock – When I don’t make my own, I love the convenience of cardboard containers of chicken broths and stock. They are much easier to use than the canned variety because I can mark the date on the package, stow it in the fridge, and use the leftover product at a later date. I use chicken stock often in Mexican Rice, Jambalaya, and rice pilaf. Recently, we purchased a simple rice cooker. And using broth instead of water is a simple way to make a simple dish a little tastier. I added a few teaspoons of the Essence of Emeril and some dried parsley, resulting in a Quick Seasoned Rice. Talk about your easy side dishes!

Essence of EmerilEmeril is so cool, he shares his recipe for the rub online. But, having it already mixed is a great convenience. Last week hubs rubbed it into a large tri-tip before grilling it. It was delicious. If you buy spices in bulk, you will enjoy mixing up a batch of this. It would make a great gift, too, whether you make it yourself or purchase it.

Chicken Rub – I made Baked Chicken with this spice blend that turned out delicious. I also took a recipe for Tandoori Chicken and tweaked it by replacing the regular spices with the Chicken Rub. The result? Grilled Chicken with Yogurt-Buttermilk Marinade. So delicious!

Overall, I was really pleased with these ingredients. If they fit the budget, I would definitely purchase them myself.
